Based on the now cult 60's TV series of the same name, this film is a strange one to say the least. It was universally panned by the critics and although it had a serious budget, the launch party was held in a small restaurant and NO reporters were invited. That said, I actually rather liked this film, yes it's quirky with not much plot to speak of, and yes Sean Connery is wasted and out of place in it, but hey, we have Uma Thurman looking amazing in those catsuits!
Sorry...Back to the film, my opinion is that if you're expecting a great film, you will definitely be very very disappointed, but if like me you were expecting a rubbish film, you may be pleasantly surprised.
Picture quality is what you would expect from DVD....Stunning, even though its only a matted widescreen. Some of the scenes look amazing, especially the snowy ones.
Sound quality however is less than good with an annoying muffled effect masking a potentially great sonic experience, the giant insects a good case in point, they had the chance to use the surround channels to great effect to simulate the swooping, but instead this sequence is ignored sound wise.
Incidentally, look out for some long-ish cameo's of Eddie Izzard and "The Happy Monday's" Sean Ryder as two rather strange bad guys. All in all, if you liked the TV series and you're not expecting too much, you may enjoy this film....Maybe.
