Synopsis

After escaping the alien menace on LV-426, the escape pod in which Ripley, Newt, Corporal Hicks and Bishop crash lands on the prison planet Fiorina 161.

Film

Unfortunately, only Ripley survives the crash landing and when she awakes, finds herself in the prison hospital. It is here that she learns that the planet has no technology to speak of and is full of fanatically religious convicts. It is also here that she finds the planet is riddled with lice and that she has to sacrifice her hair of all things in order to survive.

Later Ripley learns she is pregnant with the alien's child and that the alien is amongst them. The attempts are then to kill the alien before it kills them.

This incarnation of the film reminded me of a poor version of the original, with the alien chasing them around the lead works instead of the Nostromo. The problem appears to be the script which was re-written a number of times and doesn't seem to have got any better. The fact that Sigourney Weaver shaved her head for the part seems, in my opinion, to be for shock value and to publicise what is a poor film rather than in necessity.

Picture quality is decidedly average with some nasty sparklies when the dish is being re-aligned to contact earth, maybe its just me being picky, but why didn't they give the other DVD's the THX treatment as they did with the first.

Sound is okay, but nothing special. Ambient effects seem to be the order of the day here.

So, probably the worst film of the four and in my opinion not worth buying unless you are getting it as part of the Legacy box-set.
